2 Your prompt

You are an experienced recruiter and resume writer who writes concise, credible resume bullet points.

## Task
Write 3 resume bullet points for this position: [job title, company and dates].
They should support my application for: [target job] (entry-level).

## What I did
- [List your main tasks and responsibilities]

## Requirements
- Style: action verb + task + result.
- Start every bullet with a strong, varied action verb. Never start with "Responsible for".
- One line per bullet where possible (under 25 words).
- Use only the facts and numbers above. Do not invent metrics, team sizes, tools or achievements. If a bullet would be stronger with a number I did not give, add a suggestion in [brackets] instead.
- Keep it ATS-friendly: plain text, no tables, icons or special symbols.

## Output format
The bullet points, ordered from most to least relevant for the target job. Then list up to 3 questions whose answers would make the bullets stronger.

Why this resume prompt works

Recruiters skim. A bullet that starts with "Responsible for" and lists duties tells them what the job was, not what you achieved in it. The strongest resume bullets follow a simple pattern: a strong action verb, the work you did and the result it had, ideally with a number.

The builder separates tasks from results on purpose. AI models are eager to add impressive numbers, and a made-up "increased revenue by 40%" can cost you the job when an interviewer asks about it. The prompt tells the model to use only your results, to keep bullets without a result honest rather than inflating them, and to ask you for the missing numbers instead.

The target job and keywords fields tailor the wording to the role you want. Many companies use applicant tracking systems that search for the terms in the job ad, so mirroring real keywords where they are true helps a human and a parser see the match. The ATS option keeps formatting plain: no tables, icons or unusual symbols.

Worked example

Say you are moving from account management into a customer success role and want your old job to show it. These are the inputs:

Keywords from the job ad

Bullet style

Yes

The builder turns these inputs into the following prompt. Load it into the form above with the Account manager example chip and change anything you like.

Tips to improve your results

  • Write tasks in your own plain words. The AI is good at finding the right action verb; you are the only one who knows what happened.
  • Estimate honestly if you lack exact numbers ("about 80 attendees") and keep the qualifier in the final bullet.
  • Copy keywords directly from the job ad, but only those that describe work you have really done.
  • Run the builder once per position on your resume and keep the strongest 3-6 bullets for each.
  • Read every bullet as an interviewer would: could you talk about it for two minutes?

Frequently asked questions

What is the XYZ formula for resume bullets?

It is a pattern popularised by Google recruiters: "Accomplished X, as measured by Y, by doing Z". It forces each bullet to contain an outcome, a measure and the action you took. Choose it in the bullet style field.

Will the AI make up numbers for my resume?

The prompt tells it to use only the results you provide and to suggest where a number would help instead of inventing one. Still check every bullet before you send your resume, because models occasionally ignore instructions.

How many bullet points should each job have?

Three to six is typical. Recent and relevant roles deserve more; older or unrelated roles can have one or two. The builder lets you choose between three and six.

Is it okay to use ChatGPT for my resume?

Using AI to improve wording is common. What matters is that every claim is true and that the resume sounds like you. Some employers have their own rules for AI use in applications; follow them when they exist.
