## Task
Write a cover letter for the [job title] role at [company name].

## Key requirements from the job ad
- [Paste the 3-5 most important requirements]

## My relevant experience and achievements (use only these)
- [List your most relevant experience, with numbers where true]

## Requirements
- Tone: Friendly and clear
- Length: Short (about 200 words)
- Open with a specific first sentence, not "I am writing to apply for...".
- Match my experience to the requirements with concrete evidence.
- Do not invent skills, employers, degrees or numbers. If a requirement is not covered by my experience, do not pretend it is.
- Avoid cliches such as "team player" or "passionate" unless backed by an example.

## Output format
The finished letter with a greeting and sign-off, using [Hiring Manager] and [Your Name] as placeholders. After the letter, list up to 3 suggestions for making it stronger.

Why this cover letter prompt works

Hiring managers read many cover letters that could have been sent to any company. The fix is matching: showing, requirement by requirement, that you have done what the role needs. This builder sets the prompt up for exactly that by asking for the job ad's key requirements and your evidence side by side.

Honesty is built in. The prompt tells the AI to use only the experience you list and not to pretend a requirement is covered when it is not. That matters: an AI-polished claim you cannot back up in the interview is worse than no claim at all. The prompt also bans the stock opening "I am writing to apply for..." and empty adjectives such as "passionate" unless they come with an example.

The optional why this company field is where most letters become memorable. One true, specific sentence about why you want this employer is worth more than a paragraph of general enthusiasm. The suggestions at the end of the output show you where the letter is still weak.

Worked example

Say you are applying for a customer success role and want to connect your account-management results to the job ad. These are the inputs:

Job title
Customer Success Manager
Company
Fieldnote
Key requirements from the job ad
3+ years in customer success or account management for B2B software; Experience reducing churn; Comfortable running product training sessions
Your matching experience
4 years as account manager at a project-management SaaS company; Reduced churn in my portfolio of 60 accounts from 9% to 5% in one year; Ran monthly onboarding webinars for new customers
Why this company?
I have used Fieldnote with my own team and like its focus on small companies
Tone
Professional
Length
Standard (about 300 words)

The builder turns these inputs into the following prompt. Load it into the form above with the Customer success role example chip and change anything you like.

Tips to improve your results

  • Copy the requirements in the employer's own words. It helps the AI mirror their language.
  • Use numbers only where they are true and you can explain them in an interview.
  • Paste your CV into the AI chat after the prompt if you want it to find more evidence, but keep the fact rule.
  • Read the letter aloud. If a sentence does not sound like you, rewrite it in your own words.
  • Create a new letter for each application; do not reuse one with a different company name.

Frequently asked questions

Is it acceptable to use AI for a cover letter?

Many applicants use AI to draft, and most employers care about whether the content is true and relevant. Use it as a starting point, check every claim, and edit it so it sounds like you. Some employers state their own rules in the job ad; follow them.

What if I do not meet every requirement?

List only what you really have. The prompt tells the AI not to pretend otherwise. You can mention transferable experience honestly, for example a related skill from a different field.

How long should a cover letter be?

Usually around 250-400 words, or under one page. Shorter is often better when it is specific.

Can I use this for a career change?

Yes. Put your transferable experience in the experience field and explain the change in the "why this company" field. The AI will frame it honestly if you give it the facts.

Is my personal information stored?
